Prototype Part
This prototype was produced to test function and assembly fit. Being able to test several revisions quickly before moving to series production was the key advantage of 3D printing at this stage.
From Problem to Result
Before series production, the part's function and assembly fit had to be physically validated — quickly, and without investing in a mould.
The CAD design was adapted for FDM and several revisions were prototyped quickly; function and fit were physically tested at each revision.
Design issues were found and corrected early, before series production, reducing the risk of the mould investment.

Services Relevant to This Project
One or more of the following services usually come into play in the production journey of a part like this.
Explore More Examples
Automotive Bracket
A mounting bracket produced from an engineering plastic and required to carry mechanical load. Because only a low quantity was needed, it was produced without the tooling cost of a metal alternative.
Functional Enclosure
An enclosure designed to protect electronic components and produced with flame-retardant properties. The lid-to-body fit and cable entry points were revised at the CAD stage with manufacturability in mind.
Bodywork Component
A connecting part designed and produced for body integration. Because assembly tolerances were verified at the CAD stage, no revision was needed after production.
